Cinema
Watching movies is much more popular now than it was about five years ago, still cinema halls
are not always filled with people. Some people, mostly students, prefer to go to a cinema on
a weekday in the morning, as it is cheaper. There are student's discounts, so ISIC cards can
be useful. Sometimes there is a chance to buy cheap tickets and then take seats in the middle
(that are expensive), if they are free.
CINEMA CENTER (Kinotsenter - Киноцентр). One of the most popular Moscow cinemas where there
are many different movies daily. All the new famous ones are showed here. Often movies are in
original languages with subtitles. There's a big hall with a large screen and a small hall that
is also comfortable.

MUSEUM OF CINEMA (Музей Кино - Mu`sey Kino). It is placed right near the Cinema Center.
There are four small halls where old movies or alternative new ones are shown. Sometimes there
are special week programs: Japanese movies, Finnish movies and so on. Many movies are shown in
the original language. Tickets are always cheap. Moscow's intellectuals and students love this cinema.
As there isn't always enough room, it can be difficult to get tickets for some good movies and
you'd better buy the tickets beforehand. Museum of Cinema is closed in August.

AMERICA-CINEMA. A large cinema with 550-seat hall and DTS sound it is located in the
Radisson-Slavyanskaya hotel. Movies are always in original language.

DOME CINEMA. The building is a sphere shape where there is not only cinema but also the
"Penta Renaissance" hotel. The design of the hall is as interesting as the exterior. Movies
are always shown in original language. The Russian translation is available through headphones.
The sound quality is not good sometimes.

35 MM CINEMA (35 миллиметров). This cinema is located in a picturesque Moscow area, and
it is not very large. It has 11-meter long fancy hall and Dolby Digital sound. Movies there
usually are shown in original language with Russian subtitles. The choice of movies is always
interesting. There are good European, Asian, American, sometimes alternative movies. At night
they run two movies non-stop.

Area: Kitai Gorod, metro Krasnye Vorota (red), Kurskaya (blue), Kitai-Gorod (orange). When
you walk out of Kurskaya, go to Sadovoe Koltso (Garden Ring) on the same side, take any trolley
and after there's a big street (Pokrovka) to the right, stop (2 mins ride - 8 mins walk). Cross the
Ring and there's the cinema in a white building. You can also take a nice walk, as it is a nice
area (the direction is from the metro station towards the centre).

ZARYADIE (Зарядье) This cinema is located in the hotel Rossiya, in the heart of the city.
It hasn't been redecorated since the 1970's, so it's interesting just to see it inside. There are
sometimes really nice alternative European movies. Sometimes there are also special programs,
for example, a week of French movies in Moscow.

ROLAN The cinema is located in the residential office of Rolan Bykov foundation, which
explains the name. The design is rich and a bit freaky. In the comfortable hall for 200 people
there are cozy chairs, modern projection and sound systems Dolby Digital Surround EX. There are
also a huge bar and gallery "Paradiz". Tickets are usually available before shows, as well as
advanced booking. They show intellectual modern movies, the hottest Hollywood and Russian hits,

STRELA (Стрела). This is a cinema with a small hall, a small screen and comfy low chairs
(so that you are half-lying). In the back rows there are seats for two. If you call, a waiter
can bring you a drink (be ready - it's not cheap). There are non-stop night shows. There is also
a bar where you can watch movies on a big TV - different from those in the hall. Movies in the
original language are not very frequent, you should check.
